REBEDDING

rEBEDDING

Rebedding is a highly skilled task that requires considerable expertise and attention to detail. Over time, if a tiled roof is left without proper maintenance, the mortar that secures the ridge capping can deteriorate due to natural wear and the breakdown of its material properties. Eventually, the mortar loses its solidity, disintegrating into loose, sand-like particles.

In such cases, the existing ridge caps must be carefully removed, and fresh mortar—typically mixed at a 1:4 ratio of cement to sand—should be applied using a bedding frame to ensure a clean and consistent application. Once the mortar is in place, the ridge caps are repositioned, aligned, and levelled accurately. After this, a finishing layer of pointing is applied to seal and secure the ridges, ensuring both durability and a neat appearance.
